I have them in my belly button following a laparoscopy. They are currently very visible (about 3 inches each side) and grossing me out!

I had the surgery five days ago and they still seem very apparant. How long until they go?

Also, would it be unwise to cut the ends?

The stitches will be gone in about two weeks. Do not cut the ends, or do anything else to them. You can give yourself an infection or damage to healing process. Leave that to the surgeon.

yes it is unwise to cut the stitches as this could open the wound. requiring you to get the wound restitched.
and you should allow at least 14 days before the stitches may be able to be removed.
you should ask the surgeon or your doctor for best advice. though i think it will take at least a month for the stitches to start to dissolve away.

I only had metal staples when i had my back operation but they came out (removed by nurses) about 7 to ten days after the surgery. just keep washing the wound several times aday to keep it clean and so you do not get an infection. the more you wash the more chance the stitches should start to disolve.

but you really should be asking your doctor about this not us on here!
it is better to gross you out as you put it than to remove the stitches too soon and risk the wound opening up and causing you yet more problems.
if you really are worried about it try covering the wound with a bandage or just wear a losse fitting top until the stitches can be safely removed.

good luck, and speedy recovery to you!

Oh.... Its very unwise to cut the ends.... Please don't do that. Just live it untill it totally cure. Well, it takes more than a week to dissolve it. The more you take care of your own health the more sooner you will be better. Take care of your consumption. Eat more plant product than the animal product.

After having 2 tooth pulled, my stitches got here out in 3-4 days. the 1st one got here out via itself, and that i'd desire to have swallowed something of it. I m hoping that became long sufficient to do the trick, yet so some distance, so good. I determine which you do rinse with salt water a minimum of 5 cases an afternoon.
