Use the weight the manufacturer recommends. If you are having oil consumption problems, think about going up one step - if 5w-30 is recommended, use 10w-30. If you are still having problems at the thicker oil, get the engine fixed. You'll be better off in the long run!

Like previously stated most V-8's require 10w-30 wieght motor oil. Your manufacture might require a different wieght for your specific car and it also might suggest a different wieght for different driving conditions. Make sure to check the owners manual or ask at the dealers service center to be sure( your car dosnt have to be a new model, or come from that dealership to get advice and service) One thing to be aware of is DO NOT mix sinthetic motor oil with regulaur non-sinthetic oil, thats a no-no.

I would go with the manufacturer's recommendations. As the engine gets to having 50,000 miles +, I will usually stay with the oil weight but go to a synthetic oil regardless of engine size.

If your motor has over 200k its best to use 10w30, if not 10w30 or 40 fine. Just with thicker oil it will build inside your motor quicker than thin oil will.

best to check the owners manual first but the most common oils these days are 10w-30 and 5w-30.

Depends on a couple of things. What year is it and how many miles are on it. Mine's a ford 2000 triton and I have to use 5W-30

USE THE WEIGHT THE MANUFACTURE RECOMENDS.useing other than that - either heavier or lighter will cause problems sooner or later. if you want to give your engine better protection , use a synthetic oil.
