In the United States, Harvard, Pennsylvania, and Stanford have excellent programs in Business and Management. They are all private or autonomous. I imagine the University of Michigan, which is not that far from the center of the American automobile industry in America which pioneered several new business and organizational methods, has a good Business School. But on the whole private universities win hands down in this particular area. But outside that area of study, several public universities (Berkeley, for instance) can hold their own with private ones. But even here if you consult the list of America's top universities, you will find that private ones have the edge.
