Anything that's not big enough to eat the adults will probably do fine with Cherry Reds. We've kept Endler's Livebearers, Threadfin Rainbow Fish, and Vietnamese Whiteclouds co existing perfectly happily with the shrimp. We currently have a betta in with our Endlers (which have five cherry reds in with them) but it's hard to tell at the moment whether he's been bothering them or just sticking to the fry.

What I would suggest is, since you only have a 2.5 gallon tank, to get a couple of male guppies. They shouldn't bother the shrimp (assuming the shrimp are full grown). You might also want to plant the tank heavily so that if/when the cherry reds breed, then the babies will have a higher chance to grow to adulthood. I had several of the babies from my female make it to adulthood, despite being in a 2.5 gallon with my Endler's because the tank is very heavily planted. Hope this helps!

think small. small tetras like neons, rasboras, zebra danios all should do well with your shrimp. i tried keeping ghost shrimp with bettas and goldfish for a while but they end up disappearing.
