The Dead never played the same thing twice and that way they got more people to attend their shows.....people would follow them and go to show after show...It would make sense for some bands and not others. The Dead could do it because they had an endless repertoire. Most bands today only have a few hits and if they don't play those the fans would be furious.

Critics always complain about bands that don't change their set lists. Does that make sense? The only people who are going to know that they didn't are people who will go to see them twice on the same tour.

Personally, I don't care if they do or not. What I prefer--not being the musically adventurous type--is that they not stray too far from the original song. I've never cared for expanding on a song that worked well in the first place. Use that creativity on a new song, don't waste it trying to "fix" an old one. If you don't like it the way it originally was, don't play it at all.

I Guess it would matter if the band was a support act as opposed to the headliner .
The support act would have to change the set list because of time limits on the stage .

Why should they be forced and who should force them? If you don't like what they play don't buy a ticket. You have to remember that they are the ones performing for you, if you don't like what they do, vote with your feet.
