I could care less about those who say he is a shadow of his former self. Berine has done wonders for the yankees, becoming their first regualr center feilder in ages, and now they just dump him on what he plans to be his final season in baseball, if you dont want him on the feild offer him a coaching spot or whatever, he deserves to be in that dugout and they all know it. If williams isnt in a yankees uniform come march the yankees screwed up.

Bernie is getting on in years, and Johnny Damon has taken over Bernie's centerfield spot. Damon is a better hitter, but not as good a fielder as Bernie. Overall, I think the Yankees should keep him as a fill in. If not train him to be a coach. In baseball, a lot of players get screwed because of the money issue. One of the most famous baseball screws happened in NYC during the 1970s. The Mets traded Mr. Mets Tom Seaver to the Reds. Seaver was so much apart of the Mets organization it was almost unreal that they traded him. Bernie, of course, doesn't fit into the molds of past great Yankee centerfielders like Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle. And there is no way Bernie is getting elected to the Hall of Fame. He was a very good player, but like other players, age catches up with them. Sad to say, I think Bernie is now in 2007 over the hill.

No easy situation for anyone.....the Yankees lose either way.....I like Bernie and has done a lot for the Yankees....what can anyone say that is "bad" about him....he has been all world class since he came on the team and continues in this manner with the difficult situation the Yankees are in....but it really comes down to it that this appears to be in the best interest of the team and we need to see this.....look at the Emmit Smith situation at Dallas....similar...it is time for the team to move forward and hopefully much further then they have for the past several years.....which brings me to another point about changes....but that will be another question.........(hint......Pinella should have been the new Yankee Manager!!)

I agree. They cant get rid of a pitcher to find a spot for this yankee legend? They should send a bullpen pitcher down to triple AAA and leave bernie up. If they need a pitcher later on if someone gets hurt then bring him up. Last year they had how many outfielders on the roster? Bernie also saved there *** last year.

I like Bernie, but Yankees need to concentrate on winning another championship. And the truth is, if the situation arises, and we need another OF, there are much better players to be aquired.

No.
Bernie WIlliams is a shadow of the player that he once was. The only thing that the Yankees are doing is trying to allow him to see for himself that if he continues to try to play, he's only going to embarrass himself.
The Yankees will fete him appropriately when he sees this for himself and retires.

If they get rid of him they are stupid. Where would they have been last year without him with the injuries to Matsui, etc.
