Because they are unable to see or think outside of the box consensus reality has placed them in.

They have been convinced that the box is the sum total of reality so they don't even take a peek outside.

Both of your opinions answer the questions. Because technology is taking over and also cause of influence. Mostly people are bored because of the influence because the technology is actually creating lot of things you don't have to do.

In the past boredom was a time of doing nothing to create something to do. Today the world leave a lack of space to people be what they are. People feel they are pointless, without a place in the world and in the society.
I think most of the time is because many families and cultures are falling apart. And tradition are no more important.
Technology is not the problem because technology depend on man.

Yeah, technology has helped but in the long run technology is good. What makes people bored is not getting out and interacting with other humans and the world. It's from isolating yourself in front of technology. Interest in the world around you is what slays boredom. Check it out...

The drudgery and predictability of life. Technology takes away the sponteneous and the surprises that spark life. A greater awareness of futures and it not being different from the past or the present, reduces all things to the experiential. People must create newness, surprises and excitement to beat boredom

When I was a child, I was bored. Now, there are so many things I want to do. So many books I want to read. I try to fit as many different things in my life that I consider fun. So often I'm pressed for time, it's hard to get bored with my choices when most of the time I feel like I can't get enough.

They are lazy; they don't exercise their minds. you can take technology completely out of the picture and put people back in the cave. If they are lazy, they'd just stare at the cave wall and get bored. If they are not, they could draw pictures, or think a better way of living beyond the caves.

I also don't understand how people can be bored when there are so many things that can be done. I think it's may be because people allow themselves to think that they can only do certain things, they don't think beyond what their immediate experience is. I don't think technology has any part of that.

The advancement of technology, the internet especially lends us the luxury of sitting at home on our ****'s to do EVERYTHING! Shop, communicate, educate, sell/action/trade items, it has even replaced frequenting trips to the post office with the ability to pay for and print out mailing labels and postage from the comfort of the home PC.

Thus, one more thing has been added to society to add to the lazy population of Americans. Everyone wonders why there are so many obese people in America. Perhaps if people continued to live NORMAL lives by GOING OUT to shopping centers (and passing on the shipping and handling charges you will see when shopping on line), going out to the post office, etc. You can even order prescriptions on line for both the human and domesticated pet and have them shipped right to your door. You can watch movies, download and burn cd's, take college classes.

GOD DAMN PEOPLE. Does this make me a hypocrite? No, I strictly limit my net time daily, and set an internet shopping spending limit. I could never allow myself to fall victim to having a more intense relationship with my PC than the rest of the sickening society that we live in.

Probably doing the same things again and again everyday.
Just need a new adventure in life, something exciting.

And yes technology also is one cause of boredom. It makes our work easier, less work. Less work, more time to feel that you are bored when you do nothing.
