I use dell desktop at work and a dell inspiron 1300 laptop at home. When I managed to destroy my wireless connection they remotely accessed computer, sorted it out , e-mailed me to make sure everything was O.K. and telephoned me to see if I was happy and if there was anything else they could help me with! I mean the same person all the time I also have their work e-mail address and a case no. so I can contact them again if I have a problem. All under guarantee! Service or what? It cost under £350 but you would probably want an extra battery I already had a printer

If you go to the big superstores like Currys and PC world they always have offers on. Tell them you've seen it for less elsewhere and you are likely to get a discount. especially between these two stores as they are very competitive.
If you are feeling very brave and are near London go to the north end of Tottenham Court Road where there are loads of computer shops and you can haggle your heart out!
I paid £450 for mine and it is great. You don't need to spend more than £500.

You should get some deals now as the new VISTA is out, so if your son is OK with the old XP, then you should get a model that runs on that and you can always upgrade later.

Go to www.novatech.co.uk if you are based in the UK, they have decent laptops that are not big named and therefore not big priced. Still reliable though.
