Because they find it so difficult to empathise, or consider someone else's point of view. Particularly, they find it hard to understand emotions of other people (he characters, the author, etc...) and to discuss even their own emotional responses.

I am on the Autistic Spectrum. (Have Asperger's)
I tend to have trouble 'reading in between the lines' which is something you need to do.
As for stories, there's one thing that DID happen - an infinte number that didn't but could have.

Plus, Jess makes some good points. Sometimes though, burnout, I mean we constantly have to adapt to the NT world, trying to do that again with the characters can seem a waste of time especially when they're not real.

they think in concrete terms. There minds are in another world.

I think their brians have been wired differently. they have silks that others don't have. Photograpic memory. Hearing a bug in the next room that other can't hear. great at space invaider type games.
