It is a bit scarey to think how much people will believe anything they hear. All the more reason to seek truth. Tradition can be a good thing but just like everything else needs to be filtered through truth. We don't want to be waisting our time following an empty tradition that leads to nowhere. Good question...thanks for the thought.

I have an analogy. It was an experiment actually. There was this banana plant that was placed inside a cage where monkeys are. It was an experiment so there were bananas up there and monkeys were allowed to climb up to try to get it. The catch was, whenever monkeys attempted to get some bananas, they have been sprayed out with cold water. There were five monkeys used during the experiment so they all shared the same experiences. In one point of the experiment, 1 monkey was taken away and was replaced by a new one. Without an idea of what was going to happen, the new monkey by instinct would try to reach for the fruit but the 4 other monkeys would pulled him down. 1 more monkey was taken away which was one of the 4 remaining and was replaced by another new one and did the same process. Everytime the new monkey would attemp to climb up the others would pull him down. The experiment continues until no more old monkeys left but still the remaining monkeys are doing the same thing. They were all afraid to climb up for the fruit. The lesson here is that we will all share the same fate if we follow traditions we never knew the roots... But if that tradition is good for us and in humanity, there's no reason to refrain from observing it. I hope this helps =)

Traditions do not ruin people but being stuck in the past and holding on to outdated practices that are no longer applicable or relevant (mainly due to the industrial evolution and increased understanding of the world we live in) to this day and age can inhibit growth. Traditions should serve a person/ community but unfortunately extremist traditionalists believe that people/ communities should serve tradition. As we have improved and advanced in other aspects, traditions should also improve and advance.

Tradition doesnt exactly ruin lives but it affects a lot mentally.Like,a woman from an orthodox family willnot be given much career opportunities.Actually traditions r wat people followed long back. Then,to that sort of society maybe they were useful but now as world has changed these too shd be changed which isnt done in many orthodox families. That too,in religions like Hindu the actual purpose of following a tradition is forgotten now as these r too old.The actual purpose is defeated. But traditions have their own advantages too. These make people very patient, virtous & inculcates moral values. But career wise these pose problems.
The stories were created to create a scare among people & make them follow some traditions. These rnt true.As i said above the main purpose is defeated & hence unwanted ones (like stories) come to light.

If it's an unhealthy tradition then yes, but there are many healthy traditions that are passed on which help to give structure to a person's life & help to shape who they are. Yes we still make our own choices but our history, culture, religion, family helps to make us who we are. We need some tradition, guidance & a past to help us in the present & the future. Even if it's something that you react against and you choose a different path, your tradition still had an impact on your life. I was raised in a Catholic Irish-Italian family. I have respect for my heritage. I love my family. I have gone my own way in many ways but I'm still thankful for my experience & background. It helped to shape the person that I have become.

it`s not the tradition itself, is the social pressure that kills us. just the thought that u might be considered different, weird, get excluded or whatever... frighten us enough to stay on everybody`s tracks... if u have the courage to have your own ID... then only u can decide what u want to do or not. If u still accept others guidance as the best possible/only possible... then that might break u into pieces sometime...

Yes! More often than not we know when we are deep in S**hit and that we need to stop but the dark side of use, which is enjoying the S**hit keeps us knee deep and liking it. I have heard stuff and now that it reaches my niece and tell her that it is a lie but I ask for help first so I can explain it to her in the "right" way
