every guitar has frets and strings, frets are the bars that go down the neck of a guitar horizontally.. To play a guitar you strum the strings with your dominant hand and hold down the string(s) with your other hand . to play an individial note you would place one finger inbetween two frets and strum. to play a chord you would place more than one finger between two frets each finger being on a different string. the general way to tune a guitar the notes are EADGBE from strings 123456 string 1 is the thinest.

It can't be explained really. You have to get lessons or at least do a lot of reading on it to get what you're doing. but it can't be too easy doing that yourself, so just stick with lessons.

i am learning at the moment, you need to learn the frets first, then the chords, it takes a lot of time and practise.
