Hi sweetie,
My daughter started at the age of 10 yrs. I know you feel embarrassed but truly its part of growing into a woman and its a feminine way of life. You have to remember your mum also went through this like all of us ladies, and I'm sure your mum will support you and feel proud that you were able to talk about it. There is certainly no reason for you to be embarrassed because your mum is also your best friend and loves you very much.

Honey, periods are a wonderful miracle of nature ! You're a woman now ! Maybe someday you'll have a child. Your Mom has probably been expecting this and it's a very special moment between a mother and daughter. I felt kind of proud when my daughter told me she started. It's a private thing that the two of you nnow share, like you've joined a secret club !She'll be glad to hear that your body is working right and it will bring you closer. Why not pull her aside and make her some tea or something and sit her down and make a real occasion out of it ?! This is a very important event ! I've heard of single fathers having period parties for thier daughters when they start to celebrate and make up for no mom.Say something like,"Mom, you're not the only woman in the house anymore!" Good Luck ! Welcome to the club !

we've all been there, i can remember having to tell my mum and i was so embarrassed too.
of course the same will apply to your mum and she will be expecting you to start as you are obviously at the right age. i think the best you can do is just go there straight away and just say mum can i have a quick word... just to let you know i have just started my period' it may be embarrassing and hopefully your mum will deal with it in a matter of fact way that will take your embarrassment away. but in any case it will be done then and you wont have to worry about it... the longer you put off doing it the harder it will be.
good luck!

Your mum has periods too, so you should not be embarrassed to tell her! Getting periods is just a normal part of growing up into a woman. Even if you have never talked about periods before to your mum, she will not be surprised if you talk to her now.

I found it difficult too! I was really embarrassed but knew I needed to tell her (because who else would have bought my Sanitary towels/tampons). I was half laughing and half crying when I told her and I was 15 at the time! Just go up to her and say "mum I have something to tell you... I have started my period"! It shouldn't be something to be embarrassed about because it is something all women have! Go ahead tell her now. You can do it, I know you can. Once you have told her you will be wondering what all the fuss is all about. The longer you wait to tell her the more difficult it will be because your constant worrying will make it harder! You will feel so much more relieved once she knows!! I give you one hour from now to tell her!

Your mom is a woman and has been in your shoes before. Don't be embarssed!! Just sit down and tell her. She knows that with your age you are close to it anyways.

Well she has them too! Don't be embarrassed, I am a little disappointed, unless perhaps you are younger than average, that she didn't warn you about the onset and tell you to speak to her when they start. Go tell her, she won't be surprised and some mums even get quite emotional about it, as they view it a bit like a right of passage with their little girl growing up.

This should not be a problem. Surely she knows that this is a normal development. Can't you ask her for advice as to what brand or type of "sanitary device" you should use? That way you will be asking her advice, which is to say recognizing her greater experience and knowledge regarding this problem, and also communicating the information that you need the information now at the same time.

Congratulations, you are now a woman. This is NOTHING to be embarrassed about! Be proud, be calm, just tell her. She can help you with your shopping for the best sanitary product for you, how to deal with any side effects you may get (period pains, temperature fluctuations, mood swings, diarrhoea).
Just tell her, she would rather you told her, than she find out when she does the washing. At least you recognise what has happened to you, so just relax - you've gotta live with this for the next 35+ years now!
