Which is best, the Intel Pentium D 915 Dual Cor processor 2.8ghz 2x2mb L2 cache 800mMHz FSB or Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E4300 Processor (1.80GHz, 800MHz, 2MB)

The E4300 is a bargain brand Core2Duo.
Less cache, slower FSB & no virtualisation capabilities.
It's still a fine processor ... but is the "Poor Man's" Core2Duo.

It's a tough call.
the D915 is older technology & the E4300 is a watered down (& cheapest) version of the latest technology (Core2Duo).

Performance depends on the applications used. The 4MB cache on the D915 is very benefical when editing videos or other large files.

Honestly .... if you were my friend, I would beg you to save a few extra dollars & go for a Core2Duo E6300 or higher.
My gut feeling is that within months you may begin to feel regret if you buy either of the two you mention.

The D 915 is the better.

The duo is much faster and overall has more capability for memory.
go to Dells web site they are a good learning center,even if u buy a dell.
