is drinking a masculine habit? are we giving up our femininity when we partake in drinking? is this an achievement for feminism that we can go out and drink or are we victims of masculinisation?

I think just having a quiet glass of wine or something is fine but binge drinking - going out with the express intention of getting wasted, chugging pints, vomiting in the street, fighting and screaming and acting like a drunken tart is very much masculine behaviour plus its chavvy and horrible and tacky.

What you're saying is that drinking is not "lady-like", if I understand you correctly.

Well, in my opinion, standing at the bar, downing pint after pint, telling rude jokes and pinching passing-by men's butts really is not lady-like. Or feminine. Or polite.

But women can also drink (and get drunk) very "gracefully". They (we) always have and always will. A nice glass looks very nice in a woman's hand. A woman doesn't have to behave like a sailor when she drinks.

However, I am aware of the masses of binge-drinking women in UK. Groups of loud women swaying along the street, teenage girls behavin literary "like sailors" and tasteless hen parties... all this is, mildly said, concerning.

Drinking alcohol isn't pinned on us men, there are just as many female drinkers out there. But I live in the UK and we have a bad reputation when it comes to drinkers.
Moderate drinking is ok but I don't drink at all, makes me misbehave and get arrested so i avoid it.
I get my high by working out and keeping fit n healthy.

Drinking in quantity is not a smart move in either sex. It is also becoming an ever increasing problem in Britain today, far greater it seems than in most other European countries.

We also have disastrous drug culture!

this is interesting.........when i have mentioned to some Asian ppl about drinking beer..........they woould be shocked and say that only men drink beer. seems like a regional thing....and in this region (southern US states) women drink it like it was bottled for them. we start out w/ the lights and ultras....cuz we are women ya know.......then when we have had just enouph.......we switch over to the MAN ones. at that time it doesnt matter.your gonna get drunk as a skunk any way.BUT........the next day......i'm still a woman....a very sick one. you cant drink away your femininity.

No.

A few drinks (up to 4) is sociable, and fine for either sex.

Binge drinking is crude, idiotic and pathetic. In either sex, it is totally unattractive, and a total waste of good money.
