I've made it a point to avoid a capo... I believe that, yes, it can mess up your guitar. Especially if you don't put it on right. You're better off trying to play your guitar without a capo. I've been playing for years and have never resorted to using one.

I never put my capo on my guitar that it didn't put it out of tune, especially the high pitched E string. It just changes the tautness of the strings enough to alter the pitch of a couple of strings. Maybe I used a cheap capo.

ive never used a capo in my five weeks of playing, and i dont see myself using one anytime soon. I dont like altering my sound unless i do so by drop-tuning or effects.

I guess it can but other than mar the finish or taking it out of tune, it's never happened to me.

i say just give up the thing its a waste of time you should just play power chords/bar chords. its a less chance of screwing the guitar up
