I just bought an amd athlon64 x2 processor, but under system properties it says I have a 32-bit processor. I thought it was supposed to be 64-bit processor. Why is that? Thanks for the help.

It came with windows vista premium , I'm not quite sure how to tell if its a 32-bit or 64-bit.

Are you sure it's not referring to "32 bit operating system" ?
Look under :

System properties
Hardware
Device Manager
Processor

How is it identified there ?

What version of Windows are you using.
Have you installed all the updated drivers & updates for Windows :

AMD Dual-Core Optimizer

AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor Driver for Windows XP

*** FYI ... Windows does not need to be 64 bit for the processor to be properly identified.

It sounds that you should upgrade your Windows operating system to a 64 bit version. If you are sure your Windows is already 64 bit version you may need to refresh the installation by running windows setup repair mode.
