......all other conceptions are filthy?

And yes, I know what it represents, so there's no need to go into a history lesson about it. I just think, "Impregnated Without Benefit Of Intercourse" would be a more fitting term, don't you? ; )

IWBOI is a rather wordy term, but it (immaculate) bothers me for it implies that sex is dirty and filthy and embassassing

From what I can tell it comes from the 1919 race between a horse named Man o' War and a horse named Upset. You have been told this many times already. Man o' War was favored 7-2 and Upset beat him. So why would this have made this a repeatable phrase? That is what you have not been told as of yet. You have to look up the definitions of Man of War and Upset to figure out how witty this choice of phrasing was. A Man of War is a fighting ship. Upset is a synonym for to capsize or turn a ship upside down. Seabiscuit is another name for hardtack, a hard piece of bread a sailor might consume on board a ship. To say Man o' War was later Upset by Seabiscuit" was brilliant. It is like saying the horse choked. Prior to that date the word upset was mainly used to show the change from a stable position to a prostrate one. That race forever changed the word upset's common usage. It is fun to see the moment in time culture changes the meaning of a phrase or word. Thanks for the question. I only hope this is not my last.

I once heard that the term "Immaculate Conception" did not refer to Mary being a virgin upon conception but that Mary herself was immaculate and was without sin.

Pope Gregory III. Since Jesus was the son of God some ignorant people thought god pumped his juice into Mary. It didn't happen that way Jesus existed in heaven and came down here to earth, then turned into a human baby. The term made more sense before it was translated from Latin.

The Catholic Church came up with the idea of Immaculate Conception, but they added more to it than just what appears. Under the Catholic concept, Mary returned to being a virgin after Jesus was born, and after all of her other children were born. The teaching of the Catholic Church is that Mary is a perpetual virgin. This is how the condone praying to her, because in their opinion, she is "immaculate".

The media coined it when Franco Harris caught that pass in the playoffs against the Raiders.

Wait, that was the Immaculate Reception.
