Horoscopes are done by pretty long process. and alot of memorization is needed. for the different interpretations. it mixes Geometry with Astronomy, with a Writer's Interpretation of it all.

Astrologers use something called an Ephemeris to find the positions of the planets today. when writing horoscopes they use a vague resemblance of Transits. so i would grab a picture of the Zodiac Wheel and find some kind of online ephemeris or hard copy of an Ephemeris for this year.
(an Ephemeris is a Chart showing the planetary positions on a specific day)

Sun (Inner Identity, Pride)
Moon (Emotions and Moods)
Mercury (Communication and Knowledge)
Venus (Romance and Beauty)
Mars (Passion and Dispute)
Jupiter (Philosophy and Luck)
Saturn (Devotion and Reputation)
Uranus (Rebellion and Friendship)
Neptune (Dreams and Beliefs)
Pluto (Power and Transformation)

a Transit is basically a planet entering a house or making an aspect with another planet.

the houses are sort of a calculated new zodiac (since you don't know everyone rising sign its safe to just assume the starting of the first house is in the sign there sun sign is, and using the signs following as the corresponding houses.
so for a Scorpio ...
Scorpio = 1st house (rules your outwards personality)
Sagittarius = 2nd house (Money and Possessions)
Capricorn = 3rd house (Communication and Intellect)
Aquarius = 4th house (Family and the Household)
Pisces = 5th house (Love Affairs and Pride)
Aries = 6th house (Health and Charity)
Taurus = 7th house (Relationships and Marriage)
Gemini = 8th house (Sex and Finances)
Cancer = 9th house (Philosophy and Luck)
Leo = 10th house (Reputation and Status)
Virgo = 11th house (Society and Friendship)
Libra = 12th house (Dreams and Deception)

IE Jupiter in the 2nd house might have the feeling of not having enough money or possessions

* When you get an actual personalized horoscope, these are actually done alot different, but since you are generalizing it you can use this.

When it comes to aspects, again you are using a very generalized approach, since you do not know the exact location of a person's sun sign you can use a very generalized approach to this. an aspect is an angel between two planets, when it comes to transits, it consists of a planet today and a planet at a persons time of birth (since you only know their sun sign this makes it exceptionally easy)

Conjunct (0 degrees and in the same sign):
has a blending effect on the two planet's energies.
Sextile (60 degrees and one sign apart):
Harmonize well together
Trine (120 degrees and 3 signs apart):
Harmonize extremely well together
Opposition (180 degrees and 5 signs apart):
Energies Clash and vastly different from each other
Square (90 degrees and 2 signs apart)
Energies "Irritate" each other disharmony among signs relatively the same in some ways.

so say a Mars Square Sun might be interpreted as being Testy, or Slightly Irritable.

its alot but i hope it helps

According to this site cancer the disease takes it name from the zodiac sign. Not sure if I believe it but this is the best I could find on it: Cancer governs the chest, breasts, elbows, stomach and digestion, womb and female reproductive organs. Cancer, which can affect any part of the body, is sometimes said to have taken its name from this sign, which can therefore afflict its subjects with imperfections anywhere. This is incorrect, however, the derivation of cancer being the Latin cancer meaning gangrene as well as crab. nevertheless, Cancerians are said to be liable to breast cancer and to suffer from pleurisy, dropsy, piles and varicose veins. The excitability mentioned above can lead to weak digestion, gastritis and other stomach ills, and there is a tendency to coughs and weakness of vision.

Zodiacs are named for constellations. Your zodiac sign is determined by where the moon was when you were born based on the month. What happens to you is based on where the moon is in comparison to your contctelation and the other constellations.

This site will explain it better than I could. I find it rather confusing, but I think this is helpful:
