Cognitive is one of the many branches of psychology. This particular branch looks at what people are thinking when they do something. It looks at the process in between A to B, in comparison to behavioural psychology which looks at what people are doing at point A and at point B. Cognitive psychologists look at what people think, question why they think like they do and, if there is a problem, try to change the way of thinking.

Cognitive psychology is the study of mental processes - thoughts (cognitions), and behaviour.

Eg. it includes the study of
PERCEPTION (ie the red blob coming towards me through the air is a cricket ball and it is hard)
ATTENTION ( I will pay attention to this ball so I can work out how to respond to the fact it is coming at me)
LEARNING and MEMORY
PROBLEM SOLVING (How am I going to get away from this ball or how am I going to catch it).

Basically cognitive psychologists try to explain behaviour in terms of inferred mental processes. A lot of the ways in which they carry out their experiments is by using computers. Computers operate by software (the internal processes) producing n output on screen / sound (ie behaviour). The computer is seen as a useful analogy and so is used as a simulation.

Cognitive psychologists do not give therapy to patients.

Hope this is helpful.

Cognitive psychology, put simply, is the study of the way the brain processes information (and how this impacts on behaviour).

This branch of psychology tends to focus on perception, memory and language for example.

Cognitive psychology is the study of the process that lie beneath our mental activity. It's sort of hard to describe; perhaps a few examples are the best way to go about this. Cognitive psychology studies the processes behind perception, attention, problem solving, reasoning, memory, decision-making, and that sort of thing. The shortcuts that the mind uses in order to work effectively, the way that our brain ties together all of our senses to form a coherent picture of our world, and the way that we train our attention to focus on one thing are all examples of things that are studied in cognitive psychology.
In short, it's the study of the processes that our brain and our mind use to do the things that they do.
I'm sorry; I know that's sort of a convoluted definition, but I hope that it helps.

Cognitive psychology is a branch of the discipline that deals with getting the patient to verbalize and/or think about their behavior to the point that it brings about positive change.

Cognition by definition is awareness of a fact or circumstance according to the dictionaries I've looked in.

Does that help??????
