College is not about practical learning, it is about learning how to learn. You learn the methods to understanding in college. It gives you the ability to see different sides of an argument. If college has done it's job then the person graduates with the ability of critical thinking. To not believe everything you read, but to read a great deal, and form your own thoughts based on that. So don't worry about no practical learning.
