well janaki m why have u said tht teachers work only for money these days.do you mean that others dont.i dont think there is any profession specially in developing country like ours where people dont run behind money.you must be aware of the corrupiton level here in every field.so teachers are no exception...
so we should work to rectify the problem in general rather than pointing out one particular profession.

I agree with static energy!!!!!!! I can assure you that I am NOT getting rich from teaching- yet I would not choose any other profession. Please be careful not to make "blanket statements" about teachers. Just as no human is quite like another, teachers can be different too. I DO try to be a good role model for my students as well as encourage my students in their habits, activities, etc. Not all teachers are working just for the money because frankly sweetie, there is not that much money involved. By the time I work all day with my students, go home in the late evening to prepare for the next day (grading papers, calling parents, preparing lesson plans, filling out required paper work, etc.) I have probably worked about a 12 hour day. This does not even include the weekend work required of a teacher. No, you are sadly mistaken, most teachers are not working for the "high wages" we make. I hope your ideas and opinions can change after reading some of these responses.

Hey Janaki,
I taught for 30 years and I'm still not rich! Oops! I don't think I was doing it for the money.
Everything that happens in society seems to become another responsibility for teachers - sex education, drug education, values education, safety issues... We put the teachers up on pedestals when it comes to what we entrust to them as a responsibility. However, the respect they get doesn't seem to match. Teachers are often expected to deal with student misbehaviour but are not given the "tools" to do so. They often don't get supported by their student's parents who then scream and yell at the school so much that the school administration or school board doesn't back up the teacher. And, if the school does support the teacher it isn't uncommon to see parents go running to the media (radio, TV or newspaper) to gripe in public or hire a lawyer to sue the school.
On top of which, they are the first people who get blamed when a problem develops - on society or with an individual. This is known as "teacher bashing".
The teachers I know and knew don't do their jobs for the money. They love making a difference in the lives of their students and enjoy both teaching and learning. (Because we're always learning how to do our jobs better.)
If you have a problem with a particular teacher, it could be due to any variety of reasons. Don't overgeneralize and make this a statement about all teachers.

Yes because teachers nowadays live in the current society :))
Well every one works for Money. The value system has been degraded for the whole of the society , so there is more importance on the money in general.
Raising salary etc works to some extent but human beings are greedy, even if you give someone the whole world, they will want another one as a bargain.
Only people with passion and a sense of integrity towards their profession can do justice to their job, no matter whether they are teachers, clerks, doctors ...

Everyone today are interested to get money through the most simplest task i.e. teaching. They may not have qualified but still they are employed as teachers in government schools. Government is not interested to take a note of it.Why can't everyone of us realize our responsibilities towards our work? It's in the hands of the teachers whether to play with the future of the country. We together can contribute for building our shining INDIA. Teachers are responsible to inculcate the right values and impart correct knowledge to the students. Then only a student can respect a GURU from the bottom of their heart.Do you have the courage to go out of your way in making India as a learned society?

Lol. I sure don't teach for the minimal pay I get. I also spend that money on my students. I buy the kleenex, stickers, special books, art material for a cool projetc ect. As far as discipline in the schools times have changed. There is no corporal punishment. Don't blame the teachers blame the parents. I promote kindness, problem solving without violence, helpfulness and pride in accomplishment. Positive reinforcement is heard throughout the day and negativity is kept to a minimum or done privately. Most kids only hear negative comments at home and in society. Kids learn to be negative. They don't come into this world being negative. Teaching is not a field you go into seeing dollar signs!!

First of all teachers are educators not role modeles or parents to your children. Discpline and encouragement and respect for others should come from the home and the family structure. Support your teachers and let your children know how valuable an education is that's what your'e paying for.

Really? Did you survey all teachers to find this out? Teachers are the only people left who are still trying to teach children right from wrong. It is society that has lost all moral values and parents who don't teach their children respect that are the problems!!!

What are you talking about?
Your question doesn't even make sense. Learn how to write proper English.
Do you teach? Then how do you know what teachers work for? I do teach and it sure isn't for the salary I make. My student are disciplined so they can learn. They are motivated to do well. Express yourself in areas where you are knowledgeable.

I beg to disagree. You would be surprised to know that there are still numerous dedicated and noble teachers who work not for the money. Get in touch with them.
