Yes.

The Catholic Church believes that God himself is the author of marriage and has created it for one man and one woman.

The Church further teaches that being homosexual is not a sin but that all single people (heterosexual and homosexual) are called to celibacy.

What civil governments decide to do is up to their citizens and the constitution of the country.

But the Church has a commission from Jesus Christ to "Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, ... teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you."

In obedience to this command, the Church has been telling world governments what it believes is right and wrong since the time of the Romans.

With love in Christ.

As said by someone earlier,it is those who are on their 3rd,4th and higher spouses who have redefined marriage. We need to evaluate the state of the world we live in and adjust our measuring sticks accordingly. In this time,we have to acknowedge the rights of ALL humanity and cannot pick and choose which rights to withold.A marriage is such a personal thing that it is amazing that grown folk are paranoid about the issue of same sex marriage. It does not concern nor affect you.Britney Spears got married for a week in Vegas.THAT is abusing marriage as an institution. We advocate a separation of Church and State.Well, there goes the religious angle.Truth is,there is no legitimate reason beyond separatist doctrine and homophobia that adequately explains why this should not be permitted.Face it,Adam and Steve as well as Anna and Eve are taxpayers, earn money, own businesses and vote - they are a part of the collective that is this country.

Best answer I heard though is this joke -

"If they want to get married so bad,let them,so they can endure divorce like the rest of us !"

Morbid, but it lightheartedly shows how petty the argument against it is.

I would say no. It is a union between two people who love eachother. Why would it be different? Gay people should have rights just like everyone else. Think of this. Two gay people have been together for over 25 years (they cannot get married due to the law). They have a home together and a lifetime of memories. One dies. Now because they are not married the home gets taken away from the other. They have no rights. It is awful. Let them get married. What is the big problem? It is their life, their decision. I see no change in the value or definition of marriage in whether it is regular or gay. It's the same.

No, definitely not. Marriage is simply life long commitment. I think heterosexuals who have divorced and remarried multiple times have 'redefined' marriage more than a pair of love birds who just happen to have the same genitals.

To add my own little rant, I'm so confused and angered by the mostly American and religious biggot's paranoia of the 'homosexual agenda' or the arguement that homosexuals should have 'civil union' instead of marriage as if there is a real difference!

Marriage has been "redefined" many situations. countless hundred years in the past, marriage became not about love, it became prepared. All of this replaced. Marriage will be redefined even as a majority of persons settle for gays for who they are and comprehend that their love is as valid as anybody else's.

Marriage is a committment between two people who love each other and want to spend the rest of their lives together, gender only comes into that in those who are close minded.

Why people think someone elses marriage and sex life interferes with their life is beyond me. Why are people so concerned about gay marriage, we have it here and so far the only change I see is in the wedding pages in the paper, it has not effected my life whatsoever.

Inter-racial marriages use to be illegal in some states and I don't hear about people getting petitions together to put banning of that kind of union to a vote to rescind the legality of that.

Personally I don't have anything against gay relationships but do I think they should be able to get married...no. Numerous states are already passing anti gay marriage laws and these same states won't recognize gay marriages. Men and women were put here for a reason.

Depends what marriage means to you. If it means the bonding of two people, at least by law, then no. The love between two gay people is still love-that feeling of being on the edge of the world together.

It amazes me that folks have such a hard time dealing with "gay Marriage". I mean we have reality tv shows that degrade the core values and commitment that a man should have with a woman, (Wife Swap, etc) yet when a couple has been together despite all adversities they don't have the right to get married? I say it's time to live and let live.

Yes it sure does as it goes against the Bible and it is considered sodomy. God destroyed Sodom and Gammorah over this and wickedness in the world and today I believe we have become worse than that city ever has! God made Adam to be with Eve Not adam to be with steve. Or Eve to be with Chloe. That is why a man and a woman fit together perfectly and can produce children but two people of the same sex cannot produce a child and they do not fit together like a puzzle. It is peoples choice to be gay and i dont bash them or hold it against them BUT i do feel it is immoral and sinful and wrong and that God will judge us someday for it. However immoral people that get married and are not gay can be just as sinful and wrong by sleeping around and cheating lots of times on their spouse. They will be judged too and if they do not turn from their wicked ways God will judge them too. Not one sin is worse then any other in God's eyes and the Bible does say Thou Shalt not commit Adultery. God created a man to be with one woman in holy matrimony til death do they part. This is how it is designed and meant to be.
