If they're gonna have captains, I believe it should be w/Sid the Kid and the Wreckin' Ball as co-captains. Then ya got the Young and the Old, so it balances everything out. Yinz know?

Only the players and coach of the Penguins can answer that. A captain is not the one that gets the most points but is the best leader. Mark Recchi may not be a vocal person in the dressing room and if he is not he would not be a good fit for a captain.

Yes, there is no reason why Mark Recchi should not be captain. He is a veteran with years of experience and leadership, and he has two Stanley Cup rings ('91 Penguins, '06 Hurricanes).
This season, he is 3rd on the Penguins with points, behind only Crosby and Malkin. He has played in ALL 54 games this year which means he keeps himself healthy. He averages almost 20 minutes of ice time per game and he will be invaluable to the Penguins come playoff time, due to his prior experience in the postseason and being able to score when it counts (10 PP goals).

The Pens are throwing the C at Crosby the same way the Wings did with Yzerman (and the Pens did with Lemieux). They know the kid's the future of the franchise and are making an investment in him from the start.
Recchi's had a very respectable career, but he's clearly on the back 9 of that journey. Regardless, there's no doubt that he is a vital leader in the lockerrom without needing a title to do so.

Michel Therrien said out of respect for Mario Lemieux that there will be no Captain this year.
but yes Recchi can easily be a Captain, but if you really look at the way Sidney Crosby is playing we all know hes the real captain right now and pushing this team.

Not really, if you give it to him it is clearly just about him being the oldest player and most veteran. Actually I think they are better with the system they are using where a the players just wear the A and there is no Captain. Oh and as to leader Pens are 2-31 when Crosby doesn't score. Not saying that requires leadership but he has shown alot of leadership at his age. I'm sure the arguement will be well he has years left to hold the C. Yeah and what if he gets hurt and never gets that chance?

If the Pens named a captain then it probably would have been Recchi, but they dont have one.
They did not name a captain out of respect for Mario, doesnt make much sence to me but its not my decision.

he is an alternating captain like Crosby and Gonchar
the penguins dont really have a captain and havent had one since Lemuiex retired.
If anything Crosby should be the captain because he is the leader of the team and the NHL in points despite missing five games due to injury. It would be a huge boost for the penguins if the NHL's poster boy was their captain

Definitely he should be first he is one of the hardest workers in hockey. He is one of the best 39 year old you will ever see. He never gives up.With all his experience he should be the only choice. Here in Philly we were sad to see him go he was and still is a fan favorite.
