Ovulation is when an ovary releases an egg. The egg enters the fallopian tube, where it stays for about 24 hours. We say that a woman is ovulating during this time; it is the period when it is possible for her to become pregnant. If there is sperm in the fallopian tube, it may fertilize the egg. This is called conception. The fertilized egg then travels down the fallopian tube and embeds itself into the lining of the uterus. Once it attaches here, a woman is considered pregnant, though most tests will still take another couple of weeks to detect the pregnancy. If the egg is not fertilized, it passes out of the body through the vagina. About two weeks later, the uterus sheds the lining that it had prepared for the egg; that's what a period is.

You need to do your temp for more than just a few days, you need to look at it over the month then you'll have a clearer idea of what is high and what isn't. In looking at your temperatures above i would say that the 98.5 means you are ovulating, your regular body temp being 97.something on average.
Always make sure you take your temperature in the morning before you get out of bed otherwise it isn't an accurate result and keep a note of your temperatures for over a month then you'll have a good idea of not only when but how high your temperature will rise. I am trying for my second baby and keep mind in a small diary by the bed for ease. When you do ovulate you'll see a marked difference compared to the rest of the month.

You need to track your Basal Body Temperature over a few months to see the pattern. You need to use a digital thermometre & test each morning straight after you wake up before standing, or doing anything to be accurate.
Your BBT will be lower between your period & ovulation & then rise or dip then rise at ovulation. The rise indicates ovulation has happened so although tracking your BBT is a good way to see if you are pregnant or not (which I'll explain further on) it can't predict ovulation as can testing for changes in the body such as cervical mucus & position of cervix.
The BBT is related to the levels of the hormones oestrogen & progesterone in your body. Before ovulation the levels of oestrogen are higher causing a LOWER BBT aon average ranging from 97.0-98.2 deg farenheit. At/after ovulation it will rise approx 0.4-0.6 degrees ranging now from 98.0-98.6 plus. It will then remain higher until the end of your cycle when it will begin to drop again - your period will then come on within a day or two. You find out if your pregnant this way by tracking your BBT & if it remains high for 17 days in a row & you have no period there is a good chance you are pregnant. To detect ovulation look for a change in your cervical mucus it will be slimey like raw egg white & your cerix is hard to reach & soft. You ovulate approx 14 days BEFORE your NEXT period. So take the number of days your cycle is long and take 14 away. This is the approx day you ovulate. (IE 30 day cycle - 30-14=16 - ovulation = day 16). Have sexual intercourse up to 5 days prior to this day & during for the best chances of conception. Good luck, hope this helps you!

Hi,
In order to confirm ovulation using the BBT method you need to take your temp from Day 1 of your cycle, and chart it - when you have had a temp spike of 3 days or more you have confirmation that ovulation took place the day prior to the temp rise.
The temp rise needs to be 0.2 (c) of a degree.
If you are trying for a baby this is not the best method as it will only tell you when you have ovulated not when you are about to - OPK's will do that for you.

If it is ten days after the first day of your last period chances re you are ovulating or preparing to ovulate. If you wnat to know exactly when you are ovulating buy and ovulation kit - they are fantastic and have helped lots of people I know get pregnent. However sex every second day, ten days after the first day of your period - for ten days will pretty much cover you.
Good luck
