Takeoff The plane lines up and sits there for about ten seconds. Then there's a very loud whooshing (almost screaming) sound as the engines rev up. Then the plane gathers speed and you hear a low rumbling as the plane goes down the runway. Then the nose begins to tilt up and you are pressed back in your seat slightly. Eventually, the nose angles up about 25-30 degrees (guess) and the plane leaves the tarmac. The rumbling sound stops, and the ascencion feels fairly smooth. About thirty seconds after takeoff, the plane will turn either left or right to clear the airspace for the next plane to take off. This feels slightly unnerving, as the wings must dip in the direction of the turn. After the first turn, the plane may make one or two smaller ones, and will continue ascending at a fairly steady angle until it reaches cruising altitude (30-34,000 ft). Throughout the first ten minutes or so, your ears will pop due to altitude. Cruising The ride is fairly smooth, and although the roar of the engines is still very noticeable, it will feel almost as though you are stationary on the ground. You may experience turbulence, which will cause the plane to bump a little. Landing About twenty minutes prior to touchdown, the plane will begin to descend. You will be able to feel the descent slightly, as though you are going down a small roller coaster. The descent occurs in stages, so you will not descend constantly to the runway. About five to seven minutes out, the throttle will be closed dramatically to an acceptable landing speed - this will cause the engines to suddenly go quiet for a short while. While it may sound as though they have failed to work, it is all intentional and there is nothing wrong with the aircraft. Upon landing, the nose will be angled up, though you might not feel it. The rear wheels will touch down first, and a bump will definitely be felt. About five seconds later, the front gear is lowered, and the plane is completely on the ground. Then, the pilots will gradually slow the plane from about 150 mph to 0.

Scary on take-off. We were diverted from New York to Washington on a Virgin flight (high winds at JFK) and when we landed at Wash, we were on the runway for 2 hours. Then the pilot asked if anyone wanted to get off. He said that if anyone did, the whole plane would be grounded for another 4 hours while they unloaded ALL the luggage and reloaded it.
No one spoke. Then he said that he would now take us to JFK. He said that when we went onto the runway, because of the rain he would not stop and rev up the engines - he would FLOOR IT and take off instantly. He also said that we would 'rock and roll' up in the air en route to JFK.
Everyone was totally silent and s*****g thenselves. Takeoff was terrifying but we got to JFK and landed ok. It was 13 hours instead of less than 7 hours. Bl***y awful!

Ever had a heavy turbulence once.. the plane was just suddenly falling and you have this falling sensation, like leaving your soul behind as your body continues to fall, if you often sit roller-coasters you will know what i mean when there is a sudden drop. Everbody on the plane was shock and there were some screams. But seriously no big deal. And no, i never had a scary landing before...

Yes, I flew during a storm once and the plane wouldnt slow down when we landed so we crashed, and the nose of the plane came off. Thankfully no one was hurt.

Oh yeah, on the island of Molokai in Hawaii, the runway is really short and the pilot slams on the brakes as soon as you hit the runway-there is no waiting and you hope for the best.I had many landing like that there.

YES! We landed at JFK, and it was bumpy and fast, and all these firetrucks came flying out onto the runway...and scared the sh*t out of everyone., cause none of the staff` were telling us what was happening.....apparently, the brakes were smoking....they made us wait for over an hour before they would let us off....
SCARIEST part was, our connecting flight was taking off in that EXACT same airplane....OMG!
