The DSL kit I'm getting only includes a 6' cable and I need a longer one but don't know the proper term for such a cable or what specifications to look for.

Normally the DSL modem will accept either CAT5 or USB. Your pc (obviously) should have available USB ports, and/or CAT5 port via a NIC Card or a 10/100 port on the MoBo.

I think you'll probably find the CAT5 cables cheaper and I believe they are faster. I'm with Verizon DSL and they seem to prefer that you use the CAT5 cable. At least that's what I've infered from a couple of involvements with their "support" folks.

I was recently looking at the CAT5 cables from http://www.tigerdirect.com and you could get a 100 foot cable for about $25 + shipping. So you should be able to get them from a local PC store for a reasonable price.

Hope this helps.

If you have Verizon DSL there are 4 cables for wires. The first one is the power source, the second one is the ethernet, the third is usb, and the last on is DSL.

The problem I think you're having is the ethernet wire because mine was also short so I had to put the DSL box closer to the computer.

You will need a cat 5e ethernet cable for whatever length you want. I've seen them at Wal-Mart, and at most computer/electronics stores and at the office supply stores. Wait till you get the dsl modem though because some work with cat 5 cable or a usb cable. Choose the one you want to use and go for it.

Depends on what type of connector your are talkin about, its either a cat5 straght thru networking cable or a usb cable. The network cable connects to a network port and the usb cable connects to a usb port.
