YES YOU CAN expunge your criminal record. I DID IT!! It took me 8 years of not getting into ANY trouble and making sure all fines are paid off. I hired a lawyer, told him what I wanted and now I have no criminal record.

You can have your record expunged... you need to hire an attorney, who presents a petition to the court where your conviction is recorded. The judge, your lawyer, and the prosecutor will then have a hearing to determine if it is in the best interest of the people to expunge your felony record.
Your behavior in the years after the conviction is what they take into account. Are you an upstanding citizen, working, have a family, no more trouble, contributing to the well being of the community? That's the best case you can present, and if it all works for the judge he will grant your expungment.
Most attorneys will tell you to wait a minimum of 5 years after a conviction before applying to have it expunged. Should cost $1000 give or take to get it done for only one felony.

It's "expunge".
I think that the only way that you can get a criminal record expunged is if:
1) You commit a crime when you are a minor (you can get it expunged when you become an adult, but I'm sure there are exceptions
2) If you were charged with a crime, convicted, and later found to be innocent.

Criminal record, if felonies, stay on your record permanently if occurred when you were age 18 or older.
Traffic stuff scrolls off your record in 3 years (although those pesky auto insurers scan back for 7 years - damn them!!!!)
By the way, you meant to say EXPUNGE.
Otherwise you're talking about retrieving something from the toilet. :)
