I respected his deep articulate approach to music, I thought he was an artist who had a profound sense of self-awareness; genuine and authentic, someone with a "real' & "original" touch. But then i play his music at this somewhat intellectual gathering then one guest says,"who's that? John Mayer? Yeah that's the guy going out with that Simpson bimbo!". People cracked jokes,laughed, yet I was in shock, I couldn't believe it, for me he's this special underground artist who supposedly evolved from his old music and got recognised for his talent in his latest album, however, not anymore, I am sorry, I can't feel his lyrics and music the way I use to, I have a different perception of him as an artist. He's typically shallow, common and fame-struck. I am doubting his musical abilities now. He probably has many creative people working for him like the rest of those "big" artists.

I'm completely with you on this! I loved his music and that he seemed so genuine. But not he just seems like every other musician out there. I have lost respect for him. Others have too. I still like his music. But I see him differently now.

well i'm shocked about their match too, but that didn't stop me from enjoying Mayer's music. Who he's going out with shoudn't affect his style of music. It's individual, original and absolutely great. And I'm sure he's going to keep it that way. On the other hand, I've never acknowledged Simpson as a singer (she's horrible) and yes, she does seem like a bimbo to me, but if they get along together, it's really none of our business and in no way questions his musical abilities.

I wouldn't say I was shocked, but I was surprised. I saw a pic of the two of them together and I have to admit, they make a cute couple (physically).
My image of him changed a little bit, too. But then I asked myself, "why not? John is a man, after all, and Jessica is a very attractive woman." Jessica probably isn't the bimbo many believe her to be. There have been many so-called "dumb blonds" who time revealed to be dumb like a fox. Marilyn Monroe, Farah Fawcett, Madona, Pamela Anderson, oh...so many more.
So maybe it isn't our perception of John should change. Maybe it is our perception of Jessica which should change. Maybe she is a lot "deeper" than we ever imagined.
I always pictured him with Norah Jones. Similar music maturity and they'd be beautiful together. But I just read a interview with her and it turns out she smokes pot and drinks to wee hours in the morning. I was surprised by that... Not that there's anything wrong with that........ I just didn't picture her as a party girl.
You liked his music before, and I think you should rise above the superficial reasons for changing your opinion of his music. He's only human, after all, and every one of us changes, evolves, and experiments with our personalities over time.

i like jophn mayer regardless of who he's dating. he's a very talented young man and i love his music. i think the judgement you're passing on him is unfair but to each his own.
