Pride and Prejudice never fails and the greatest Romance story in history. Sense and Sensibility follows a close second.
Gone With The Wind would be suitable for the avid reader, it is a long haul novel but well worth it.
As someone said Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, The Scarlet Pimpernel series are good for boys and girls alike.
For a modern novel I'd go for the Bridget Jones and Shopoholic Series depending on the age of these 'young adults' I'd say they were suitbale for late teens.

There is an older set of teen romance stories put out by Bantam Books called "Love Stories". The one of this series that I read and really enjoyed was called "More Than a Friend" and it is by Elizabeth Winfrey. I was able to get it through my library and it can be ordered off of amazon.com.
I'll try not to repeat the other suggestions (although Twilight is an AWSOME book that I highly recommend). A couple other suggestions (if you don't mind paranormal/romantic stories, my personal favorite genre) are:
Old Magic by Marianne Curley
The Mediator series by Meg Cabot
1-800-Where-R-You series by Meg Cabot
Got Fangs? and Circus of the Darned by Katie Maxwell
Blood and Chocolate by Annette Curtis Klause
The Shadow Within by Jenine Wilson (FYI-biased suggestion, I wrote the book)

Stephenie Meyer is great. Her books Twilight and New Moon are really romantic...
I'd also suggest anything and everything by Sarah Dessen. My particular favorite is The Truth ABout Forever. Her newest book is Just Listen. And her other books include That Summer, This Lullaby, Keeping the Moon, Someone like you, and Dreamland.
What My Mother Doesnt' Know by Sonya Sones
A Year of Secret Assignments by Jaclyn Moriarty
Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta
The Georgia Nicolson series by Louise Rennison...the first book is Angus, Thongs, and Full-frontal Snogging.

P.S. I Love you - Celia Aherne
International Bestseller and Richard and Judy Summer Read Selection
Some people wait their whole lives to find their soul mates. But not Holly and Gerry.
Childhood sweethearts, they could finish each others sentences, and even when they've fought, they laughed. No one could imagine Holly and Gerry without each other.
Until the unthinkable happens. Gerry's death devastates Holly. But as her 30th birthday looms, Gerry comes back to her. He's left a bundle of notes, gently guiding Holly into her new life without him, each note signed "PS I love you".
As the notes are gradually opened, and as the year unfolds, Holly is both cheered up and challenged. The man who knows her better than anyone sets out to teach her that life goes on. With some help from her friends, and her noisy and loving family, Holly finds herself laughing, crying, singing and dancing - and being braver that ever before.
