Hi, My husband got into model trains about 2 years ago. He had a hard time finding out about the hobbie until we bought a train magazine and found a train show in our area. The people there are very helpful and will tell you all they can. Also look on e-bay and read descriptions, go to a local hobby shop and purchase the model train catalogs for the brand of trains you think you are interested in. Think about the brand, guage and kind of track you might want. This is something we both enjoy doing together. My husband does the O guage trains and now has 4 running in his garage. Have fun, looking for info. is half the fun.

Great that you are considering making a model railway.Obe of the most important considerations is where you are going to put it and how much space it will take up.If you want to involve children then oo guage is probably the best but if not I would highlt reccomend n guage. The track and trains are half the size and you can make much more realistic curves on the track. There are plenty of model shops that do n guage and a good starting point might be to look for the N guage society website on google.

Go to ur local magazine or book store adn buy soem magazines. Then go to ur local HOBBY STORE and ask about trains. There are many sizes and the most prefered scale is HO. At the hooby store u can purchess starter sets which include track, trains, maybe buildings and people, and a transformer. i do O scale, but it takes up much room. U can buy a starter scenery set from WOODLAND SCENICS, and if u want a really detailed layout, go to SCENIC EXPRESS. U can start with a samll board adn upgrade to a larger one if needed. U can model factories, towns, countryside, or anything that u would like on ur train layout!
hope u have fun!!!!!!

I don't know where you are, but there's a craft store called "Michaels" that would be able to help you. Look in your yellow pages to see if they have one. Good luck!
