I am a teacher and a parent.

I think they should not be compulsory, but should be encouraged.

Out of school hours time is important for play, relaxation and socialisation. These are all important for healthy development, and younger students in particular learn a lot through play.

Compulsory extra-curricular activities, and sometimes even homework, can place stress on the student and their family. Imagine being a working parent. How do you find time to take your child to these activities? And then when is your quality family time?

Even as a stay-at-home parent, it is hard to find time between the end of school at about 3pm, and bedtime at about 8pm, to do anything extra on weekdays. We also have to feed our kids properly and wash them during those hours!

However, there are students who will not participate in sport or other activities without a lot of encouragement. Schools here (Australia) have after school sport programs funded by the government. These are free for students. However, the ones who use the programs are those who enjoy sport. Those who really need the programs are those who go home and eat junk in front of the TV. This is where compulsory programs would be beneficial.

Sometimes it is also hard to fit the whole curriculum into the school day. This is where specialist subjects such as music could be taught in more depth out of hours; but should not be compulsory, just encouraged for those with an interest or skill in that area.

i grow to be in boy scouts. None of my leaders behaved in any respect which will be seen sexually irrelevant with the scouts that I ever heard of... there grow to be quite of a bullying issue that grow to be often (and deliberately) neglected, yet not in any respect some thing like that. nonetheless, after listening to of the cover-up coupled with their "unique" non secular in trouble-free terms, no gays allowed stance, i could not in any respect help that company in any respect structure or form. i'm basically satisfied i have not any youngsters- it may well be fairly confusing to describe why i didn't want a newborn partaking in some thing like the scouts after all the solid situations I had with them as a newborn. It grow to be a highly useful adventure till the top of it when I were given older. to respond to your question: possibly an similar aspect he's continually doing... performing a useless ringer for he would not exist.

Physical education should be compulsory.

Look at how fat kids have become since schools did away with Phys Ed Classes.

It is a national disgrace.
