I live in a smaller town. We don't know everyone, but you get to know a lot of people.
I have a female friend and she has a daughter that is always chatting with her school friends online.
She popular, gets good grades, TRYS to stay out of trouble and her Mom TRYS to keep up on what's going on in her life without smothering her.
I feel protective of her for one, her Dad really isn't in her life, and I also am her Moms friend.
I admit, I checked her account recently without her knowing and saw that she was talking to a guy 3x her age. I know this guy as well.
While there was no archive (she's learned how to go in and delete) so it could of been harmless, I still am thinking the worst.
Should I butt out or get more involved in this one. I also don't want to take it to Mom unless I have some concrete proof that someone had bad intentions. Right now I am the only one since I am spying on her online activities.
What would you do in this kind of situation?

sarah_see_123: That has got to be about the WORST advice I have ever heard.
I would be as bad as he "allegedly" is. I say alleged because maybe he has harmless intentions as well, I don't know.
I thought about posing as a kid and contacting him to see what happens though. Seems extreme I know, but everyone (including me) seems to jump to conclusions on this stuff.

Come on, you know the answer to this one already, she is 12. He is in his 30's. Show mom how to check the account right away. Protect her if you care.

I would watch it and also if you know this guy you might want to start there and tell him that if he doesn't knock it off, you will be contacting the authorities....doubt he wants to do jail time over her....also let him know that if he says anything to the girl that you will also pursue the situation with the authorities...at best, you will ruin his reputation in the community.....get the mother involved....you will have to explain why you are spying on her dtr.....so be prepared...good luck

Well the main this is to get hard evidence b/c if you can't proof it then you are going to gwet the girl mad that you are spying in the first place. The main thing is that if you know the person that is targeting the girl then you need to talk with them and make sure that they will leave her alone b/c she is family to you. Make sure to keep this discrete you want to get this dude by the dangly things.

It is your moral duty to tell her mother. Also tell this creep that you no what is has been up to. Then tell the young girl that he is an old guy, who may have evil intentions. Then you have done your part. Wouldn't you feel terrible if you say nothing, and she gets hurt or worst, disappears? That is what I would do. After all, young girls are very gullable.

It sounds you're a bit posessive and possibly jealous. Snooping on your friend's daughter's account... that's creepy in and of itself. If your intentions are good, then back off, watch for warning signs, and let the mom know what you see.

Sounds to me like you are the pervert. You sure know a lot about this girl considering you are only a friend of the mother. Of course tell her mother and her father. What kind of bull crap is that! Tell everybody - you just told us. And on another note you to need to seek professional help.

why did you check her account? now THAT sounds creepy. this is like reading someones diary. you have no right to invade her privacy in this way. from your description she sounds like a very sensible girl
