Oftentimes, we spend our time without thinking about what we do. We work, have fun, marry our special one, play with our kids, but what is the end of all those things? If we are rich, so what? If we are famous or powerful, so what? Anybody wnt to share with me?

80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

The meaning or goal of my life is to never say "so what"...to enjoy all the little things, not to take anything for granted. Sometimes we get caught up in the search for a deeper meaning and we neglect the truth which is staring us in the face: having fun, falling in love all those things are the meaning. There is no deeper meaning than love. It's such a beautiful world. We just have to appreciate it. I hate my job so for me work is just a necessary evil, it pays the bills, it's my living not my life. My life is spending time with loved ones, being creative -- I'm a singer/songwriter/guitarist working on a CD, I'm also an artist (I paint canvases. I've sold a few & I have an art show downtown this month.)

You are right that money, fame & power are not what gives life meaning. People may have goals in those areas but true happiness & fulfillment comes from loving yourself, others & the world. Money, fame & power represent some of the ugly, darker aspects of life (greed, ambition, envy, stress etc). Peace & contentment, serenity & true happiness don't come from these things. They come from love & nature.

When u have done all the above mention things and lived a full life so wat!!!I do not feel different from the poor man who lives on the street maybe at times i think he is more happy than me for he is richer with the little he did in life and i am still searching for that something, which will fill the void of life that often i feel but knowing well that the search will lead nowhere and have to turn to the little things i used to do as it seems that only the small everyday things glittered my life with that silver lighting!!!!!!

Is this the most favorite question in this thread! Meaning or goal of life?
Just exist buddy, life's meaning question has persisted since Socrates, Jesus, Einstein etc.
Just live your life, do your job well, take off very fast if any woman wants to insert a ring on your finger in church and finally give the IRS their due.
Good luck

None of us really knows the answer to that, but I think this life is part of a grander, more meaningful journey. And I also know that my parents and grand parents have taught me what a life well lived really is all about, and it is mostly what you stated, "We work, have fun, marry our special one, play with our kids..." or whatever version of that includes our loved ones.

It is also about giving & receiving and our handling of that on many, many different levels. Good luck in your quest for answers!

The Goal of Life is existence, and nothing but existence. All our efforts function around that. Life takes us in its own path. There is nothing that we can do to change it. We are just born, from where we do not know, We continue to exist, how, we do not know and we cease to exist, that too we do not know when and where we go. You have asked a query that cannot be answered. More we think about it we are more confused!
