I heard once that at least one famous tourism blogger attained a status of a mainstream travel journalist, with hotels and attractions inviting him/her to visit and write reviews about their establishments.

Also I once read that a blogger has attained recognition by the White House and participates in news conferences alongside reporters from the traditional media.

Are these stories true? If so, where can I find evidence for them? Are there any other significant stories of governmental and commercial organizations officially recognizing bloggers?

Unless I'm missing something here, aren't all blogs basically a recitation of opinion or experiences of the blogger? All folks are going to have bias of one variety or another, regardless of where they acquired it.

If a hotel invited someone to check them out, it may just be because the person seemed particularly articulate & bright. The blogger may be unimpressed & write something negative about the experience....a free room doesn't equate to someone not having the character to be honest & truthful.

As for the White House, if I wrote a blog entertaining or informative enough that I received ANY recognition from the WH, what would be wrong w that, the President has a right to his opinions as well....right?!
