Not if you are an American citizen. Just a passport, or if you are driving you only need a divers license and birth certificate. (For this year - rules are changing for driving next year.)

If you're flying in and out of Canada, you need a passport now. If you're driving be sure to bring your driver's license and some other form of identification (just in case). In January 2008 you will likely be required to have a passport even when you drive through. Find out all the details here:

No visa needed. You will need a passport to get back into the US, even if you are a US citizen.
