Is it my laptop?
ntl wireless internet set up for 54Mbps and the speed my taskbar icon indicates varies from 54 to 24 to 1 !!! but others in house are constant at 54 what is wrong with my laptop? I have Nortons antivirus installed

some one is down loading on your connection and if it is in the same house they are getting the signal better nothing wrong with your lap top move somewhere else in the house and see Dave

Try changing the Channel that your wireless router is broadcasting on. By default the channel is 6 usually. If you change it to maybe 2 or 10 It may work better. You did not mention whether or not there are other wireless networks around so this is just speculation. But it could help. No other setup is required on your laptop if you change the channel.
You might also want to try to see what kind of cordless phone you are using, if any. If you are using a 2.4GHz cordless phone that is Not digital spread spectrum then you may have some interference. In that case switch to a 900 MHz phone or a 5 GHz phone or a 2.4GHz phone with digital spread spectrum.

There is nothing wrong it just a normal thing that happen to all of us sometimes.For the look of things your connection is alright,the problem you are having is when users connect simultaneously to the server some people may likely suffer e.g connection speed might be reduced

Your prompt adapter is crappy. Get a various one. I had an airlink one that did the comparable factor. To get it working each 15 min or so i could could reboot. I easily have a d-link now. Channels are replaced on your router. Many telephones dont have that option.
