Changed from dial-up to Broadband?
Last year I changed from BT dial-up to BT Broadband which is great. I always log-out at night and when I come to log-on in the morning the dial-up connection appears along with the broadband.
I can't get rid of it off the screen, can't connect to Broadband and have to go back to CONNECTIONS and click-on 'never dial-up a connection'. Then I apply it and OK it. This works for a while and then, later, when I'm on Broadband and try to open up a website the dial-up connection appears again. It's driving me mad! Only thing is not to log-out. Will this cost me more?

Aside from contacting your service provider, and assuming you are using Windows XP and do not need to use your modem, you could try the following:

1. Go to Network Connections
2. Right-click on your dialup connection
3. Select "disable"

Generally speaking, leaving yourself logged into your broadband service provider will not increase your costs, but you will need to consult your specific service provider to know for sure.

*edit* - You can also completely remove the item as described by other answerers. (Lots of answers in the past 2 minutes!) :) This works too, and in the unlikely event that you ever need to use the connection again, you will need to reinstall it.

No. BT Broadband is designed to be "always on", and the cost is per month.

Can you remove the old connection completely? Go into network connections and delete it, if it's there. Look in Add/Remove programs for the old connection and remove it. In that "internet options" page where you check "never dial", remove all the dial-ups from the list box.

on IE browser goto tools>internet options
in new window click connections tab at the top.
in the dial-up and virtual connections box remove/delete any dial up connections there are. click apply then OK

Now right click on My Computer>properties
select hardware tab at top of new window.
click on device manager and then when that loads find modems. expand it with the plus at the side and select your dial-up modem right click and select disable.

close everything and now you should be problem free.

go to start > Connect to > show all connections.

Choose the icon for your dial up and delete it, this should remove the settings for it completely, if you want to keep it just in case then right click on the icn and you should be able to disable it.

Please do not panic all you have to do is uninstall the program you use initially to connect your dial up and re-boot your computer you should be fine. Also make sure you use your recent connection as the default.

Contact your service provider this could be easily fixed by them and shouldn't cost you anything

Your ISP's tech support will be able to help you with this. It's buried in your internet settings somewhere.
Oops there you go, Meg found it.
