Well, sounds like you're not in love with gore like most people who love the horror genre, so try some of these films, they're scary, but they also have great plots:
- The Others
A Nicole Kidman film where she's the mother of two children in the countryside where she resides in a huge mansion. I can't really tell you more without spoiling the movie, so just take it from me, it's a pretty fantastic film, done in the asian style of all about the chills (and less on the gore). Probably my favorite scary movie of all time. Beautiful, gorgeous cinematography.
- The Ring (Japanese version)
A creepy movie. Really chilling and haunting.
- Battle Royale
Half horror and half thriller. Great plot, of a class of Japanese kids put on an island, told that they've got a choice, kill or be killed. A good exploration of the will to survive without the slow pacing or the pretentiousness.

Baby Yocca ... How about The Exorcist? It's got lots of "stuff," but it wasn't blood. They used pea soup for the vomit stunts.
