Cut off about 30 cms of the plant and place it in a vase with water. Protect the cutting from extreme light, heat and wind.

After a while the cutting will get little roots forming. You can then plant the ivy into the ground.

Alternatively you can just plant the ivy directly into the ground, but keep at least 25 cms of the 30 cms in the soil (horizontal, not vertical). Keep moist and again protect from extreme weather.

Looks like you've got some good answers. The bit of advice I have is ivy likes consistency. If you like to water, always water, if you don't, then do it only when it needs it. Once established outdoors, you only have to keep pruning it. The interesting thing about ivy is it won't grow the same all the way round your house, as the micro climates will be different. But, that makes it special. Tassie, are you quoting JC Raulston?

Cut your stems below the little bumps or knobs that grow on the stems, this is where the new root will grow. Cuttings do best if you have several leaves on them. Put them in water, like you would flowers in a vase. When you have a good root ball, you can transplant them into soil. When the ivy starts to get long runners, cut them back to about 8 inches from the original cutting to make it grow fuller and not in just one long string.

Ivy will grow easily by just taking cuttings and planting them, keeping them moist. Just make sure the cutting you take has tendrils growing on it already. ( tendrils are what the plant attaches itself with, looks like small roots)
It probably one of the easiest plants to grow as it can become a weed. ( a weed is a plant that grows in the wrong place)

you are able to take a reducing off the commonplace vine and placed it in some water till it starts to root. or you need to purchase rooting hormone. once you're taking a reducing, dip it in the hormone and then position it in the airborne dirt and mud and oftentimes water it. both one will paintings.
