You can't improve it, you can only try to maintain its battery life.
The best way to do this is to remove the battery when you don't need it (so if you're going to be using your laptop while it's plugged into the wall, take out the battery first).
If you're not going to use the battery that much, leave it out and only recharge it when you need to. It should stay charged for at least one or two months if you NEVER use it (so if you're using your laptop as your main computer and you never really move it, just try charging your battery once every two months to make sure it's got a good charge to it, but don't leave it in the laptop).
I've had mine for two years and I've always left the battery in, and it gets maybe twenty to thirty minutes of battery life now, whereas before, it got at least an hour and fifteen minutes of battery life... So that's why I recommend leaving the battery out.

1. Don't charge your batter to 100% always
2. Don't discharge it completely all the time
3. Once in three months charge it to 100% and discharge fully and charge to 100% - This is called one battery cycle - all batteries can handle only limited number of such cycles.
4. Use hibernate option in Windows
5. When not in use for more than 3 months continously, remove your battery from the laptop and store in a cool dry place.
6. Don't expose your laptop to extreme temperatures
