Do you mean "ratting" (ratting out/telling on) or "rating" (judging based on quality)?

As I assume you mean the latter, I would not always rely on the technique you described, though I concede that it is sometimes a valid indicator of a restaurant's quality.

When I first saw this question I thought you had RATS that you wanted rid of! but I guess you must have meant RATING not RATTING.

I have to agree with the other two answers, the individual portions are much more hygenic and less wasteful. Even the top hotels use them. If the food is poor that's another story. The filled seats will tell their own story!

I had to read your question twice to understand it, At first i thought you wanted to put rats in a restaurant, then realised you were talking about butter, I think it is better in small amounts ,But can be messy using them.

Disagree. Those small packets are much more hygienic. I'd much rather get a fresh packet of butter than a pot - who knows whose plate that could have been scraped off?!
