tanning beds are bad for you but i still go. they can cause skin cancer if you go too much. make sure you use a good tanning lotion. and don't go for the full 20 minutes the first time. i would just go like once a week until you have acquired the depth of tan you want and then go like once every two weeks or something to maintain.
good luck!

I work at a tanning salon and no matter what ppl may tell you it DOES NOT cause skin cancer. I have been going to tanning beds since i was 15 yrs. old and i am now 42 and have never had any problems with a tanning bed. Just dont go real often. I mean go for like a month straight and then take breaks either only go like 2 or 3 times a week or stop for a cpl weeks and then go again. dont go constantly for a matter of months. That isnt good for your skin at all.It will make ur skin very dry and old looking.

UV rays are harsh on skin which is obvious. I worked at a tanning salon for a year and half. I also used to go tanning alot. I'm still young so i wouldn't know about any long term affects but tanning does increase your risk for skin cancer, also the worst problem for women and men is early aging. I've had women come in daily who were 30 and looked 45-60 years old. It's bad, if you want to go tanning, go to get a healthy glow and look good, go in moderation. Use the right lotion, Austrailian Gold or Swedish Beauty (they're both from the same company just different brand name i don't know why) . California Tan, sucks. It's cheap quality and salons mark it up pretty good so you think its good. Also buy your lotions online. NEVER buy them at the salon, because they do a well over 100% mark up on them.
Also a tip, DON'T BURN! this makes your risk higher.
Ask the person at the counter when the BED you are about to go in has had the bulbs changed and try to stick the the same bed. Firs time you go, go for about 5 min, if you get red or burn wait till it goes away and go for 4 min. Once you see that you're not burning go up 2 min each time. You will gradually build up a healthy tan. Once you have a nice tan, go one a week to keep it up. I will advice you that you once you do get tan you will love it and want to keep going and getting darker! don't fall for it. Tanning also has a high vitamin D and makes you feel good and is an anti-depressant so many women like to go in after work. I personally can't stand it and want to get out.

Hope this helps!
