If that is so, then we would be nothing more than spirits and demi-gods.

Ur question can be answered by only God.As this is the supreme power that created the universe.Creating or Destroying the matter is not in the hands of humans.Even the birth or death of a human isnt in his/her hands. We were just created & then again we die.In the same way the matter too.It was existing since years & it will exist many more years. These rnt in hands of humans & hence cant be answered or reasoned out by humans.

matter is nothing you just don't see it . it is around us i personally do not belive in it . it is really only invisible Air i believe they are particles of energy that radiates off humans and animals that is why we have a taste of fear sometimes . negative energy can either make you on edge or it can be positive energy. you know when you walk in a room of people. they maybe a presence of someone .even someone on stage doing a perforamnc if it is strong you feel the vibration of energy it captures.

without matter, where would all the energy go?
if einstein was right (and he was),
energy= mass times the speed of light (squared).
if you got rid of all the mass (matter), you'd end up with another "Big Bang" universe creating event.
you'd probably get a better answer if you asked this question in science and physics.
