English first...definitely. But English only? Perhaps not...many first world nations have several official e languages, with a primary language. It's just a sign of the times...I've traveled for most of my life and have always found it amazing how bi and multi-language literate most nations in the world are, and I don't mean just their language and English. We here in the states (I'm assuming that is were you are from) do not share that attribute and that is unfortunate.

That being said, English should be the primary language and all people who plan to live in the united states should be expected to speak English or at least be enrolled in an English language course.

I have seen shops and business here in the U.S. that only advertise in the foreign languag...this is wrong and they should be fined. I have even called travel agents, here in the U.S. that had NO ONE on staff that spoke English...They should be fined, and not permitted to open for business until English speaking personnel are on staff...

English only, absolutely yes.
and that is in the interest of all Spanish speaking people in the USA.
the government and big businesses (MC Donald, burger king........) doesn't want the Spanish to speak English, they would loose there cheap labor. if all Spanish would speak English, who would work for MC D, BK, Wendy .........., and who would do baby sitting for the rich, and who would cut there lawn?
