It is easy to fall in love with! :) I have been to every major city in America, and I honestly don't believe there are many, if any, that compare exactly to the things you described liking about it. There ARE many small towns, (also in northern CA) that will compare with the friendly people and such- but nothing quite like SF.
You might like certain aspects of San Antonio, Texas (the riverwalk) or Austin, TX (the friendly people), and you may like Seattle (the shopping...) you might also like Santa Monica, Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, and Boston Massachutses.
I think the city that i believe is the most similiar to San Francisco is Toronto- which is not in America at all- but in Canada of course.
If you've never been there and love those things about Sf, I'd highly recommend planning a trip to Toronto. It has the same clean, friendly, water, etc- atmosphere.

You've got to be more specific as to what it is about San Fran that you like.
The mild climate? Then you might enjoy cities along the Mediterranean.
The "liberal" political climate? Then head north to Portland, Seattle and Vancouver.
The hilly terrain? Then try Pittsburgh or Quebec City.
The Golden Gate Bridge? Then head to New York, London, Mackinaw City and countless other cities.
The nightlife? Also check out New Orleans, Miami, Atlanta and New York if you are looking for more "hot spots" in the U.S.

Yea the prevalent public transport is great in case you do no longer suggestions sitting next to deranged and diseased homeless human beings or violent thugs from Oakland. San Francisco was once the jewel of the west and in many strategies is an excellent city yet be easy that's turning out to be a cesspool. There are bums defecating in each single place and strung out drug addicts everywhere. the fee of residing is a few distance previous the flexibility of maximum folk and what you get on your money is an antiquated hollow interior the wall.
