You can love someone, such as your mum, your dad or your partner. But you can't really say, you are in love with your mum.

I believe to be in love with someone, is deeper than merely loving someone.

To love someone to me, is a deep caring for that person.

To be in love with someone means to have that head over heels, butterflies in your stomach, thumping heart, shivers up your spine- I love this person feeling.
