The mineral would have to be quartz or SiO2. Quartz crystals erode into sand which is a major glass making component.

Is the answer Jewels?I have no idea what Jewels but I remember my father asking the Jeweler How many "Jewels"were in a watch?I have had watches with Sapphire stems but that had nothing to do with the operation of the watch.Perhaps it is "Ruby" but Rubies are expensive.I know Garnets?Too soft????Diamonds too expensive ???I give up,Those are my guesses.All I know is "Jewels" Sorry if it were Meds. or Dogs maybe I would know what that Jewel was.LOL
