I'm curious, should players like Merriman be denied honors like the Pro Bowl and Offensive/Defensive Player of the Year because of his use of Performance Enhancing Drugs (PED)? In tons of other sports athletes are suspended or even given lifetime bans from their sport because of testing "positive". Is it right to honor someone who is receiving an award based on their performance after taking PED's?

Any athlete taking steroids or other PED are NOT athletes. They're hosers. It's just lame.
And it's not fair to other athletes who don't.

YES!

The NFL is Professional Football!

1. There is not any Professional Sport in the United States that levies Life-Time Bans for PEDs (1st or 2nd Offense)

2. What Profession in the United States levies a Life Ban for "Cheating"? None! Only thing close is Wall Street. It certainly isn't Politics.

3. In any Profession - Rule Breakers receive fines.

Shawn Merriman was fined and suspended. He missed 4 games and was still the NFL sack leader. He paid for his transgression but why ignore the Athletic achievment?

4. Merriman failed a Pre-season Test. He was tested at least once a week prior to the start of the NFL regular season and passed. He never actually Tested positive for Steroids during the actual season and they were checking him constantly. Therefore all the sacks he recorded were on the up & up!

Do you think a Player from a Losing Team should be given any type of MVP award? jason Taylor Cried & Whined about Merriman, but the Dolphins sucked. Taylor won Defensive Player of the year. Remember....Merriman DID NOT FAIL ANY TESTS DURING THE REGULAR SEASON. He missed 4 Games and yet his Stats were still #1.

Starting next year that is exactly what the NFL has done. Any players testing positive for PEDs will not get Pro Bowl or other honors.

I would like to point out as a chargers fan that
#1: Hundreds of other players have taken steroids and none have been blown out of perportion like this. He served his time on the sidelines let him be
#2: He still holds the record for the most sacks in a season after missing 4 games- that means he has talent not just hopped up.
#3: The first steroid test came back positive then the second steroid test came back negative, how could he get it out of his system that fast?

PEDs - yes they should be denied awards
Other drugs / issues that show 'moral turpitude' - no
Other issues should be left to them and the law and suspensions from the league. They should allowed to get awards even if they get duis or get caught with a bag of weed. If they are in jail or on suspension enough then they won't get awards and they will fade away.
PEDs are cheating. Awards are given for high levels of performance. PEDs artificially raise your level of performance.

YES.
And it should go all the way across the board. It goes beyond 'Performance' enhancing to stopping these high paid role models (whether they want to be or not) from causing a blemish on the sport. Kids look up to these guys and they should hold themselves accountable. That includes other controlled substances and other legal situations (guns, violence etc).
