2 y
-- - ------
5 y-2

if that makes any sense I am sorry I tried to set it up the best I could. Any help wil be greatly appreiciated. Thank you in advance!

I forgot to let you guys know that I am tring and this is what I have got can I just get some insight to whether I am doing it right or not

I have got
2/5-1-2
2/5-3
(2-15)/3
-13/3
so I have the answer as -13/3 but that just does not seem right

I am not sure if this will make it any more clear but it is worth a try
(2/5)-(y/y-2) so this is 2/5 minus y over y-2

multiply by (5) (y-2) = 2y - 4 - 5y = 0
-4 -3y = 0 ...add 3y to both sides
-4 = 3y divide by 3
y = -4/3 = - 1 1/3

2/5 - y/y - 2 = x
2/5 - 1 - 2 = x
2/5 - 3 = x
-2 3/5 = x

2/5-y/y-2 y/y= 1
2/5-1-2
2/5-3 -3 = -15/5
-15/5+2/5= -13/5
-13/5 = -2 3/5

This answer is based on what I understood from your question.
It seems like you want to solve: (2/5) - y/(y-2) = 0

Then,
Multiply your equation by 5 to get:
(2/5)*5 - y*5/(y-2) = 0*5
2 - 5y/(y-2) = 0

Now, multiply the last equation by (y-2) to get:
2*(y-2) - 5*y*(y-2)/(y-2) = 0*(y-2)
2*(y-2) - 5*y = 0

Now, expand the obtained equation:
2*y - 2*2 - 5*y = 0
-3*y - 4 = 0

Subtracting -4 from both sides of the equation:
-3*y - 4 - (-4) = - (-4)
-3*y - 4 + 4 = 4
-3*y = 4

Now, divide through by -3 to get your final answer:
y = - 4/3

Hope this is correct and useful.

2/5 - y/y-2 = 0
cross multiply
2y - 4-5y = 0
-3y = 4
y=4/-3 or -4/3

The problem you have listed is unsolvable. It's not an equation. IT has to be equal to something inorder to solve it.
For ex>
(2y+2)/3= 1
What you listed is just an expression. If you tell me what it is equal to I can help.

What kind of the problem is it ? Write the heading given above the problem in your book to make it understandable.
Just cancelling the y's would not be the soln.
