I think we just like being surprised. We will be surprised in a few months that it is hot, the same as every year we say, "gosh, doesn't it get dark early now!" and then, "well look at that! It's 10pm and still light!". I am guilty of this myself and I have no idea why we do it.

its not as much as surprised but how people seem to panic bit of snow as everything comes to a stand still schools close transport doesnt run other countries what have worst weather than uk seem to cope well so why cant we its the 21st century after all

Because they're southern.
If it snows like this in scotland there isnt covereage in the national newspapers and news networks. perhaps all the hot air will help with the thaw.
